Why don't my Spotify listeners show up in my stats?

Updated on

In short: Spotify hosts your episodes itself, so we can't see those listeners. They're still there, though. You'll find your Spotify numbers in Spotify for Creators.

How do we count downloads?

Every time someone plays an episode in a podcast app, that app fetches the MP3 file from us. We count that as a download. Almost every podcast app works this way, including Apple Podcasts and Pocket Casts.

Why doesn't that work for Spotify?

Spotify fetches your MP3 file from us only once and then stores it on its own servers. That way they can make sure the audio is always available and fast. The downside: Spotify listeners never reach our servers, so we can't count them.

How to see your Spotify numbers

  1. Go to Spotify for Creators and log in.

  2. Claim your podcast if you haven't already. You'll need your podcast's RSS feed: where do I find my RSS feed?

  3. Under Analytics you'll find your starts, streams and followers.
